Where I am so far.
I started the Good Ship Illustration business course a month or so ago. Which lead me to the picture book course. You get life time access to both so I’ve always got that information now. I’m really excited, but also a bit overwhelmed. I mean I’ve got to create a whole new portfolio. Which is YAY but, also OMG can I do this?! Joining their fb group and listening to their podcast is definitely helping. It’s helping me feel less alone, and part of a community. I also feel I’m less likely to fizzle out of steam, being connected to other illustrators.
The plan is to take the best part of a year to work on my portfolio. At the same time do a ton of research on other picture book illustrators, publishers and agents. Another strategy is to do competitions and IG illustration challenges. It’s all going to keep me motivated. But what do I do in the meantime ? I need something else to keep me going . I love hosting workshops, so why not start an afternoon school kids art club? I need to do my research first, I have no idea what already exists in my area. What’s going to make mine different? ….. and breathe!
I’ve started the research already. I’ve been to my local library got a new card (lost old one). Borrowed lots of picture books that inspire me. Even got the email of who to talk to about doing events there.
Taking it one step at a time and one day at a time. I need to get organised and block off time to do all these awesome things. I can do this!
Over & Out
I’ll be back with updates soon
Cheers and thanks for reading!
See ya soon.
